Campbell Community Center is the second oldest senior center on the west coast and has been serving Eugeneans since 1968 with the last major expansion completed in 1990.

The 2018 bond included $5 million to renovate and expand Campbell and add a health and wellness component to the building.

Here are some facts about the upcoming renovation and expansion of Campbell:

  • Today, the building is 10,551 square feet, including the woodshop. The addition will add spaces for a variety of fitness activities, more socializing and improved circulation and connectivity.
  • The project team and center staff hope to keep the building open as much as possible during construction. If parts of the building can’t be used, our goal is to continue providing programs, classes and services in an alternate location.
  • Improvements include: fitness room, great hall, large classroom, social spaces, restrooms, new reception area, heating and cooling improvements, enclosed courtyard, improved landscaping.

Hi! Campbell is very close to being finished but we can't give a more firm timeline than spring 2021. Reopening will be contingent upon the Governor's orders, so we won't know when we'll be out of the state's extreme risk level. We can promise that we will communicate all of this broadly and with plenty of notice to give our patrons time to plan!

Do you offer any classes on using a cell phone for seniors?

    Hi JJ!

Typically we have loads of classes on using cellphones. Unfortunately the pandemic has limited programming, but Rec is currently working on releasing limited programming for seniors and adults in the coming weeks. You can monitor that at getrec.org and when the classes are released you can register at https://rec.eugene-or.gov/OR/city-of-eugene-or/catalog .

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers.
