Washington Jefferson Park is a 21-acre community park in Downtown Eugene bound by 1st and 7th Avenues on the north and south and by Washington and Jefferson streets to the east and west. The park is an urban setting in the heart of a multicultural neighborhood close to the Riverbank bike path system and bus routes. The park is roughly divided into four separate sections defined by street and railroad crossings through the site. 2.3 Acres within Section 3 between West 5th and 6th Avenues is now being considered for construction of a dog park.

As WJ Park reopens to the public after three years of COVID related closures and renovations, park programming has become ever more important in keeping the park safe and welcoming for all visitors. Some Whiteaker neighbors have expressed support for the idea of a dog park in the past.

Over the summer, we reached out to neighbors with a survey to assess broader public support for this idea. More than 200 community members took the survey and approximately 85% were in support of adding a dog park to the area.

What's next?

The planning team is hard at work developing a design that will work within the constraints of the space. We expect construction to take place in 2024.

This is the first of two public surveys, and we encourage you to participate in any or all of them.

The survey is scheduled for the following dates:
