Share Hi there, Is there a most recent plan drawing available? I work at the preschool next door and we are having lots of fun watching the demolition. I think the children would love to see what is in store for the space. Thanks! on Facebook Share Hi there, Is there a most recent plan drawing available? park neighbor asked about 1 month agoThank you for your question. The construction drawings would be the most recent but we don't typically publish them as they are difficult to read for most people. But they do match the concept drawing that was prepared after the last public workshop. Check out the "Documents" section on the webpage for the most recent one. Here is a link. https://engage.eugene-or.gov/18533/widgets/62288/documents/50251
We did share a simulation of the play equipment that will be replacing what was there. It was shared by the South University Neighborhood Association in their summer social. That exhibit has been uploaded to the "Documents" section of the website too. Here is a quick link for that one as well. https://engage.eugene-or.gov/18533/widgets/62288/documents/73977

Share I have been watching the demolition of the park as it is preparing for a new design. I'm wondering if there is a plan for the red slide? Does the city reuse items like this, do they get donated or sold, or something else? Thank you, on Facebook Share I have been watching the demolition of the park as it is preparing for a new design. about 2 months agoDear Anonymous,
The slide itself is being recycled and it’s important to explain why. If we can get replacement parts from the manufacturer, then play equipment is still serviceable and it is saved for future use. However, there is a cost for salvaging it carefully plus a future cost for new foundations and re-installation. And its lifespan is already much shorter than something we can purchase new.
Most of the equipment at University Park, including the slide, is no longer serviceable and as individual pieces fail safety inspections, the only choice is to remove them permanently. This renovation project is our one opportunity to make the park whole long into the future.
Due to the liability and per city policy, equipment purchased with public funds cannot be given away or sold unless it is through a public auction. No one, including the contractor, can salvage something out of the park for themselves or for non-city use. We also have recycling requirements in our contracts to reduce waste in the landfill.
Feel free to call or email me if you have further questions or concerns. I can be reached directly by phone at 541-682-4902, or by email at mkosmos@eugene-or.gov .
Sincerely,
Mark Kosmos

Share Hi Mark, Could you follow-up with information on where folks can go in during the interim? Hi Mark, Could you follow-up with information on where folks can go in during the interim? For example, will Edison School playground gates be unlocked (and what hours)?
about 2 months agoThank you for your question, Edison School’s Park is owned and operated by the 4J School system, so hours of public use would be set by the 4J school district. We will post some of the City of Eugene’s Park alternatives on the project website for others to see as well.
Until then, here is a link to an online map for all City parks managed by Parks and Open Space. Grid F3 on the map has several locations near University Park including Washburne, Fairmount and Amazon parks.
A little further away are several recently renovated or brand-new parks that would be worth visiting, they were also funded by the 2018 Bond. They include Umso (formerly Striker Field) Park, Santa Clara Community Park, Berkeley Park, Lincoln School Park, and Martin Luther King Jr Park.
