The Mayor’s Art Show (MAS) is part of a larger celebration of contemporary visual art, artists and the City’s public spaces. MAS celebrates local artists, art production and champions the visual arts. MAS recognizes the accomplishments of artists who are committed to enriching their communities through visual arts. Our intention is to cultivate diversity, equity and access to the visual arts and artists. We envision a city of citizens whose success, safety and health are not pre-determined by their race, class, sexual orientation, gender, age, mental or physical ability.
Satellite art installations of selected artworks will be featured in vignettes of Mayor’s Art Show to be enjoyed throughout the city. Installations are included on our Downtown Art Tour map.

A panel of artists and art professionals reviewed all applications. Awards will be given based on the consideration of the following criteria: conceptual strength, artistic merit, innovation, craftsmanship and materials.

Community, 2020 Monoprint assemblage, recycled paper, acrylic, wood, 20 x 24 in -1000 My piece is called "Community". Over the past year we have had the opportunity to take a deep look at our community. We learned that communities are many layers of vibrant colors, different shapes, surrounded by plants and trees, by nature and our environment. With these elements we can find beauty. We learned that we can tear our community apart but we can also rebuild it in a more enlightened way.

Through the Bars, 2021 Wool, cotton, acrylic yarn, weaving, 53 x 39 x 2.5 in I am a visual artist based in Eugene, Oregon originally from Seoul, South Korea. I work with fiber art, installation, and different painting media. My work explores the possibilities of an abstract language and investigates the materiality of weaving, painting, sculpture, and installation with its relationship with fibers. I use concepts and theories in the Asian beliefs and Western views to create my artwork to respond to the duality of my East to West experience.

In The Now Pandemic Days Digital Video “In The Now” evolved from impulse. I began documenting my days on March 13, 2020 as Oregon and my country went into pandemic lockdown. For eighty days I turned my camera toward myself, trusting my artistic instinct, not knowing what I was going to do with the daily journal. I just knew I had to do it. The act of videoing everyday was, as is life, interesting, affirming, full of feelings and tedious. In 2020 I was given an opportunity to make a film. I was thrilled to produce this 49-minute story about daily pandemic existence. In the film each day I check in, talk about current feelings, events and how I am managing. In the lockdown, I made still imagery about the pandemic, and I used those images, as well as the wealth of photography I had created hiking, biking, and kayaking in Oregon.
