The Park Blocks are at the heart of Eugene. Dedicated for public use in 1853 by the city’s founding families, the park still pulses with creativity and energy at Eugene Saturday Market and Lane County Farmers Market. But, during the rest of the week, our most central civic space often sits empty with potential unfulfilled.
The new Eugene Town Square can reimagine the Park Blocks as a dynamic public place, bringing our diverse community together year-round. The restoration of the Northwest Park Block, covered for decades by a parking garage, will recover the founders’ original legacy of civic pride, by giving a all-season, permanent home to the the Lane County Farmers Market and a new site for the Eugene City Hall.
The Town Square will be welcoming, safe and festive. It will be the front porch of our city, our civic center; a beautiful place to gather, play and celebrate our community. It’s people that make a park and the Town Square project invites everyone in Eugene to co-create a space that will reflect what is wonderful and unique about our city, for generations to come.
